--I have always been the luckiest person I know. In 2010, I became more convinced when Gulfport found me. I had my first and only out-of-body experience at the end of Williams Pier and I knew that Gulfport was my forever home
---So, why am I running for mayor? Gulfport is a special place and it deserves leadership that fosters a cooperative team-oriented spirit at City Council. We are facing significant challenges as we work toward a full recovery from recent hurricanes. We need to have a strong , present, communicative mayor leading the residents, council, and city manager through this difficult recovery process.
---As mayor, I will request more transparency and accountability and will lead the way with my own communication style. I will encourage more open communication between council and the public. I will encourage and expect council to share updates and insights from any external meeting or training they attend. I want to create a safe and respectful place for residents and council members to have discussions, brainstorm, educate, collaborate, and problem solve. No one has all the answers but as a team we are a wealth of information. I want to ensure that resident voices are heard and valued in the decision making process.
---I want to retain as much of the small coastal feeling as possible as hurricane damages force our city into redevelopment. I want to see the city be proactive in providing residents with additional housing options to consider through public presentations. The changing climate must be a consideration when building for our future and protecting our participation in the National Flood Insurance Program.
